We Tried 14 of Guatemala's Best Foods (Guatemala Food Tour)

We had no idea how amazing Guatemalan food was until we tried 14 of traditional Guatemalan foods in Antigua! Honestly, we didn't know what Guatemalan cuisine would be like, but we were so pleasantly surprised by the delicious dishes we got to try. on our own self-led Guatemalan food tour. The first things we learned when researching what Guatemalan food to try is that there are MANY traditional Guatemalan foods that every traveler should try. There is great diversity in Guatemalan food, and Antigua, Guatemala has incredible restaurants to try the best dishes! We also learned early on that Guatemalan's love soup! This was great news to me (Nicole) as I am a fellow soup lover. Mico' favourite thing about Guatemalan food was that most meals include meat and rice, including the many soup options. If there's meat and rice, Mico is happy!

In this food tour vlog, not only did we eat some of Guatemala's best foods, but we ate them at some of Antigua's best restaurants. Our first stop was Rincón Antigüeño where we tried Polla a la leña and hilachas. Next we visited La Casa de las Sopas and started off by trying horchata, a typical Guatemalan drink for a hot day. For our meals, we tried Jocón and Caldo de Res; two of the best foods we've ever had! Then we switched gear and tried visited Mercado Monumento al Caminero for some market food, which turned out to be quite the adventure! We ate Tablazo Especiales de Res and Churrasquito (not sure there are specifically Guatemalan, but dang were they good!).

We finally visited the famous La Cuevita de los Urquizú for some of their best foods, which included Pepian de Pollo, Lengua de Res, and Subanik. Next up, it was time to try some Guatemalan street food, so we headed to Parque La Merced and tried Pupusa for the first time, along with Mole con Platano. To wash these dishes down, we tried atole de alote for the first time, which is a typicaly Guatemalan drink that we've seen many Guatemalans walking around with during our time in Antigua.

The final stop on our Guatemalan food tour was a spot Mico has been begging me to visit since we arrived to this country - Pollo Campero! This is Guatemala's most beloved fast food chain, and they happen to serve Mico's favourite food -fried chicken! Pollo Campero's menu is pretty big, so they serve lots of other foods too, but we came for the fried chicken and it did not disappoint!
