Surah Nuh (سورة نوح) – Overview & Explanation
Surah Nuh is the 71st chapter of the Qur’an. It has 28 verses and is classified as a Makki Surah, revealed in Makkah. The Surah is named after Prophet Nuh (Noah, peace be upon him) and primarily discusses his mission, the rejection by his people, and the consequences that followed.
Main Themes and Summary:
1. Prophet Nuh’s Call to His People
Nuh is described as a devoted prophet who preached for 950 years, tirelessly calling his people to monotheism (Tawheed), urging them to worship Allah alone.
He used every method: openly and privately, day and night, yet his people stubbornly rejected the message.
2. People's Rejection and Arrogance
The people of Nuh turned away, covered their ears, and grew more arrogant.
They followed corrupt leaders and clung to their idols (named in the Surah: Wadd, Suwa’, Yaghuth, Ya’uq, and Nasr).
3. Nuh’s Prayer and Complaint
Prophet Nuh complains to Allah about his people’s persistence in disbelief.
He emphasizes that they only grew in rebellion despite his sincere and repeated efforts.
4. Warning and the Great Flood
Nuh warns them of Allah’s punishment.
He reminds them of Allah’s signs in the creation of the heavens, the moon, the sun, and the creation of humans.
Eventually, Nuh prays for the destruction of the disbelievers, and Allah answers by sending the Great Flood.
Key Lessons:
Persistence in Dawah (inviting to Islam) despite challenges.
Rejection of truth leads to divine punishment.
The importance of patience in conveying the message of Allah.
Allah’s power and signs in nature are undeniable evidences of His existence.
