The photographer Matt Carr talks to me about his work, from his beginnings in Indiana to the brave new world of Prague, then London, then New York. Now living in Brooklyn, Carr's portraiture spans across celebrity, the corporate, the street, and the everyday, with commercial work balanced with the personal. We look at the photographs that he likes and that have inspired him, though he points out that reference to such connections sometimes happens long after his photograph is made. With fascinating insight into the process and workings of his images, sometimes made in only a matter of snatched seconds, we explore the relationship of photographer to subject, and to experience, and question, whose story is really in the photograph?
