Legal Provisions Against Mental Harassment
Under Section 17 of the Right to Education Act (RTE), 2009, mental harassment of students is strictly prohibited. Teachers or school authorities who subject students to any form of mental harm are violating the law.

If a child suffers from mental harassment in addition to corporal punishment, parents can file a civil suit under the Specific Relief Act, 1963, seeking compensation for emotional damage.
Schools found guilty of permitting mental harassment could face penalties, including withdrawal of recognition under the Right to Education Act and action from education boards.

Schools are encouraged to adopt non-violent disciplinary methods and focus on the emotional and psychological needs of students. NCPCR guidelines stress creating a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes the holistic development of children.
