The Rochester Red Wings are one of the few community-owned sports franchises in all of professional sports.

Minor League City is a documentary series that explores urban communities in America through the lens of their Minor League sports teams.

Our vision for a full documentary series is to create a tapestry of American life through the stories of sports communities in its small and mid-sized cities. These are cities that don’t make the headlines as much as the big cities, aren’t settings for TV and film, and many of them are figuring out their identity in the aftermath of the decline of manufacturing and the corporatization of agriculture. What’s it like to live in a Minor League City? And why does their team matter so much to the community?

Our production approach combines in-depth human-interest stories with beautiful imagery of the local community; expert historical and sociological commentary that sheds light on why a minor league team matters so much to its hometown; and vérité-style scenes at games, in people’s homes, and around town.
