Renewed attacks in Benue State have intensified debate over Nigeria’s security response, with a group of lawyers from Benue South calling for international military assistance. Speaking under the Association of Idoma Lawyers, the group condemned the killing of residents in the Akpa-Otobi community in the Otukpo Local Government Area, saying repeated violence in Idoma land has stretched local security forces beyond capacity. The lawyers argue that foreign support, including from the United States and Israel, has previously helped contain terrorism in parts of northern Nigeria and could help protect lives and property in Benue. They also warn that continued government inaction may push affected communities towards self-defence.
