Debussy's "La Cathédrale Engloutie" (variously translated as 'The Sunken Cathedral,' 'The Engulfed Cathedral' and 'The Submerged Cathedral') is a piano prelude depicting an old Breton myth in which the Cathedral of Ys rises up from the sea, its priests chanting, its bells ringing and its organ playing, before sinking down into the ocean once more. The best-known orchestral transcription was made by Leopold Stokowski but here we see a rare performance of Sir Henry Wood's lavish and spectacular arrangement. It was given by the BBC Concert Orchestra under the baton of Bramwell Tovey, during the 2019 Proms season in London's Royal Albert Hall, in a programme that marked Sir Henry's 150th birthday.

Note that three other Wood arrangements from that concert are also here on YouTube ...
