Hi! I was hesitant about recording on this piano because I know some people out there are going to complain about it being out-of-tune, but at the same time, I really appreciate this old piano's sounds, so voila! I was fortunate enough to be practicing on this 1929 piano in New York during my winter break from Yale. Fun fact - this is the same piano that the original Beaux Arts Trio rehearsed on. It has been 2 days since I recorded this and I wish I had made more rubato changes in the opening theme. That said, I actually spent 2 hours trying to record this. I spent a long time trying to adjust to the different quirks of the piano's action (i.e. some keys were heavier than others hence struggling with voicing), playing over and over again to make myself play more fluidly, while also starting and stopping a whole lot during recording due to NY traffic noises 😱😳 Given how much effort I spent trying to record and play this well, I decided to post this anyway because this would be a preview for my Singapore recital on February 17th, 2019. You can treat this as a quasi working-progress if you like - and if you want to hear the "finished product," come to my Singapore recital 😉
