1995 - When the swedish record company Tongång asked me to make a method for the willow flute (overtone flute), I first thought of making a compilation of melodies, in order of difficulty, because we had a very poor repertoire at that time. Transposing existing pieces into the overtone scale, discovering other modes that could be played on the willow flute, composing and improvising for it became an incredible and rewarding adventure.

The recordings were made with a D flute, and each piece is preceded by a long D note. The ornamentation is minimal, compared to what can be done in a real playing situation. The key signature for the overtone scale is different from the one normally used : For a D flute, the accidentals are NOT F# and C#, BUT F# and G#. That’s why I surrounded them by a circle. In the book, the theoretical part which is missing here explained with more details the differences between the tempered scale and the harmonic scale.
