Drone captured the devastation of Brazil's deadly floods over Christmas.

At least 20 killed in the flooding, leaving tens of thousands displaced.

A total of 116 cities in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia were in a state of emergency, with flooding affected more than 470,000 people.

Local data shows 34,163 people have been made homeless.

The state, home for 15 million, has suffered for weeks after a historic dry spell gave way to record rains.

But the situation deteriorated sharply late on Christmas Eve.

Many residents were forced to abandon their homes for higher ground after a pair of dams gave way.

Water surged into homes and businesses, residents waded through local streets that have turned to rivers, while others sought to retrieve belongings from their waterlogged homes.

Bahia Governor reported 5,000 new homes would need to be constructed at the cost of 400 million reais, or 71million US dollar.

Rains are expected to continue in many regions throughout the week.

While Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently vacationing in the southern state of Santa Catarina, announced relief aid on Twitter early Tuesday for flood-ravaged regions.
