Anatongre and Maihpok: The Forgotten Land of Naga Origins ?

In this episode, I take you deep into the heart of Anatongre Village in Nagaland, a place believed by many locals to be connected to the ancient origins and migration history of the Naga people.

During my visit to Anatongre, I had the rare opportunity to explore a traditional Morung house (youth dormitory), where young men were once trained in culture, discipline, and warfare. The Morung stands as a powerful symbol of Naga identity and heritage.

I also came across what is considered one of the biggest log drums in Kiphire District, a magnificent wooden drum that once echoed through the hills to announce war, celebrations, and important village gatherings.

One of the most touching moments of this journey was meeting an elderly Naga woman who proudly showed her traditional tattoos. These tattoos are not just body art — they represent bravery, identity, social status, and the rich cultural history of the tribe.

Contrasting the old with the new, I also explored the newly built Baptist Church of Anatongre Village, showcasing beautiful modern architecture. Climbing to the top, I witnessed a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire village and surrounding hills — a perfect blend of tradition and modern faith.

From Anatongre, I continued my journey down to Meihpok Village, where villagers shared fascinating oral histories about the first Naga migration. According to local belief, their ancestors migrated long ago from the Mongolian region. While digging the soil for farming and construction, villagers have reportedly discovered ancient stone remains and old arrow bullets believed to have been used by their ancestors. These underground findings are said to be connected to the early people who migrated and settled in this land.

Anatongre and Maihpok are not just villages — they are living museums of history, culture, faith, and identity. This journey is more than a travel vlog; it is an exploration of the roots, legends, and enduring spirit of the Naga people.
