Shanmugam, Masagos respond to clarifications sought by MPs on 377A debate

Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli on Tuesday (Nov 29) responded to clarifications sought by MPs in the debate on repealing Section 377A - the law criminalising gay sex in Singapore - and protecting the definition of marriage from legal challenges.

In his closing speech earlier, Mr Shanmugam addressed Workers' Party chief Pritam Singh's lifting of the party whip, saying he did so because the party did not want to take a stand on repealing Section 377A. Mr Singh responded saying Mr Shanmugam mischaracterised his speech and that the WP had behaved like a loyal opposition.

Mr Masagos meanwhile responded to the Progress Singapore Party's (PSP) call for a national referendum to decide on the definition of marriage.
