Firhad Hakim is the 38th Mayor of Kolkata and Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs. He is the elected MLA from Kolkata port Assembly Constituency & the Chairman of HIDCO.


A little about Firhad Hakim’s Political Journey


He began his political journey in the year 1977 as a student activist and continues to be foot-soldier for the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt Mamata Banerjee even today.
Mr Hakim became the 38th Mayor of Kolkata on 22nd November 2018 and has since reshaped the manner in with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation functions.
Mr Hakim's initiative of Talk To Mayor has transformed the manner in which citizens can connect with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
A doting Husband, a caring Father & an adoring Grand Father, Mr Hakim juggles his professional & personal life with the perfect balance.


A little about Firhad Hakim’s Personal life


Born and brought up in Chetla in South Kolkata, Hakim’s family is currently the 5th generation living in the locality at their century old ancestral house. Hakim’s father was a noted lawyer with a decorated career and represented the port trust (Hakim is mla from the same locality). Hakim’s mother was assistant headmistress of Maulana Azad School.
Hakim married Ismat Hakim at the age of 26 in the year 1984 and she has been a pillar of strength for him throughout, they currently are a happy family of 3 daughters and a grand-daughter.
Hakim has always been into sports. a swimmer, rower, horse rider, Hakim has been the local sports guy always.
He is the first muslim since the independence of india to become the mayor of the city.
Hakim is also the organizer-in-chief of the Chetla Agrani Durga Puja committee.




Citizen outreach initiatives like never before!

Under Hakim’s initiative, Kolkata Municipal Corporation launched 'Talk To Mayor' service for citizens' grievances
The 'Talk to Mayor' Service is available to all residents in each of the 144 KMC wards, who only need to connect a toll-free phone number 1800 345 1213, 1800 572 1213.
Kolkata residents can now directly call up Mayor Firhad Hakim to tell him about their concerns and grievances.
"Every Friday, I shall take calls from the citizens for one hour from 3 pm. The Municipal Commissioner, Director Generals of all departments, the Chief Engineers and other senior officers will be with me”






Formation of Trinamool Congress
In the 1980s and 90s, the Left Front was brutal in their politics and left no opportunity to take vendetta from the opposition.
Sadly though, the senior Congress leaders back then didn’t allow the members from Bengal to fight back, they remained mum while their own party members were slain and attacked in front of them, almost as if they were hand in hand with the CPM.
This is when the Trinamool Congress was formed under the leadership of our Honourable Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
