A very enjoyable hours session spent at Southampton Airport Parkway on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway, Cross Country, Southern and freight from Freightliner and DB Cargo UK.

When you consider how important this station is in terms of its use and the location as to where it is located there is next to nothing to tell about this station. The station was opened in 1929 as the Atlantic Park Hostel Halt by the Southern Railway and remained opened for just over 20 years before it was closed in the 1950's. I'm not to sure as to the actual date that station closed. My assumption to the closure would be that the hostel that the station was named after was closed which then resulted in the station having no custom which would ultimately result in it closing down.

However the station was rebuilt and reopened by British Rail in 1966 and was named Southampton Airport. The overall appearance of the station hasn't really changed in terms of its physical layout. It has always been two platforms and the only changes that have ever been made to the station have been various bits of modernisation such as the footbridge with a lift for better access for passengers with heavy amounts of luggage either going to or from the airport. Ticket office getting a revamp as well as just general bits for better customer use throughout.

The station was renamed to Southampton Parkway for Southampton (Eastleigh) Airport and then shortened to Southampton Airport Parkway in 1994.

My next station is Eastleigh.
