Can foreigners wear traditional Chinese clothes?

A while back I was walking in one of Beijing's many parks when I noticed many women wearing a Hanfu and taking photos. I've always found many of the Hanfu very pretty, and always wanted to take photos wearing one. I was never sure though if it would be okay for me to wear one, because I am a foreigner. But after seeing the women in the park I decided to ask my friends if it would be okay for me to wear it. My friends said it would be fine, but I wasn't sure how other people would react.
