If you decide to do this yourself, don't use a defensive strategy on bubonic plant as hardmode+ generally punishes defensive strategies, if you equip attack raising cards such as ante up/knight or both, you will see a huge increase in your survivability as you can kill the bosses faster.

If you wanted a mixed build, ante up with fireball could work, as trying to fit everything in an already limited stat pool (BP) can be tough.
Power stab with ante up or knight does 5 to the plant, which means you only need to attack 10 times. If you use knight as well it will take 1 less attack, if you only want to use sword then use knight of course, especially since you will have rocket boots for burn if you want it, (the bosses are the hardest part so obviously sword has the advantage over ball here, and no don't even think about grinding softener).
