There are far too many students who experience academic pain points to get a degree and think these pain episodes are synonymous with higher education. The TEDx details the top three academic bullying pain points college students endure, along with strategies to mitigate the 'academic bricks on shoulders.' Listeners (students) will hear about the First 5 Words theory to support using their academic voice. The Top 10 Academic Bullying Pain Points apply to ALL students (majority, marginalized, and minoritized). No student should be in pain to get a degree; Dr. Carey wants students to be successful when she is not around! Dr. Carey has taught in academia for the past 22 years. She is currently the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chair of the Board of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions. She is an Associate Clinical Professor within the Behavioral Health Counseling Department. Carey is Chair of the Academy for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, a certified psychiatric rehabilitation specialist and Vice President of the Caravan of Life, a behavioral health NGO in Pakistan. Dr. Carey is very much interested in the national impact of recent national and international events upon persons of color. She addresses social determinants of health, health disparities, organizational infrastructure for racism minimization, and diversity, equity, and inclusion seminars to bodies of faculty, professional staff, students, and professionals nationally and internationally. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
