The Truth Behind the Duke vs BYU Volleyball Fake Racism Hoax

In my recent podcast with Jason Walton, we brought his son Josh, who was accused of hate speech, on to share his side of a story that happened almost 2 years ago...

At a Duke vs. BYU volleyball game, a Duke player claimed a BYU fan was yelling racial slurs at her during the match

BYU immediately banned the accused fan from all games and the story made national news, with some teams even cancelling games with BYU.

It eventually came out later that nobody else heard any hate speech, there was a cop standing within earshot of Josh and didn't hear anything, Josh wasn't even in the stands at the time the claims said he was yelling stuff to the player...none of it made sense.

BYU's athletic director Tom Holmoe later appologized and BYU lifted the ban, but I wanted to share this story as it's an important lesson of what happens when we jump to conclusions before getting the whole story.
