The Dolomites, Italian Dolomiti, Ladin Dolomites, are a mountain group of the Southern Limestone Alps, but are also counted as part of the Southern Alps. The Dolomites are located between Val Pusteria, Isarco, Adige, Valsugana and Piave. The entire mountain range is divided into the Dolomites of Val Gardena, Fassa, Ampezzo and Sesto. They are spread over the Italian regions of Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige – in roughly equal parts – in the provinces of Belluno, Bolzano-South Tyrol and Trento. Since 2009, parts of the Dolomites have been part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. Linguistically, the region is characterized by Italian, Ladin and German-speaking areas.

The highest elevation of the Dolomites is Punta Penia on the Marmolada at 3343 meters above sea level. Other well-known peaks or massifs are the Civetta, Monte Pelmo, the Antelao, the Three Peaks, the Sella, the Catinaccio, the Sciliar, the Odle and the Sassolungo.
