How to work a typical Ayrshire Needlelace Filling

Описание к видео How to work a typical Ayrshire Needlelace Filling

This video tutorial teaches how to work a typical example of the delicate needlelace fillings which were used to fill and embellish the eyelet holes in Ayrshire Whitework embroidery. This 19th century form of whitework was worked in fine cotton threads on sheer cotton lawn fabric and adorned baby's bonnets and gowns and adult garments such as collars and cuffs. It was famed for its exquisite beauty in the workmanship of its delicate floral designs in satin stitch, trailing and eyelets, with the addition of these incredibly intricate lace fillings.
These fillings can be difficult to learn from diagrams and this video teaches all you need to know to work the fillings confidently on a large scale, before attempting to use finer threads. This pattern can be adapted to produce multiple variations.
