Five Yankee pitchers combine on a one hitter shutting down the Mets early and a 1st inning HR from Jason Giambi (24th) off Mets starter and former Yankee Orlando Hernandez was all the Yankees needed as Mike Mussina pitches a no-hitter through 4 innings, then the rains came, and hour rain delay Yankee manager takes Mussina out of the game and replaced by left hander Ron Villone who gives up the only hit in the game for the Mets a solid single to left in the top of the 6th. Scott Proctor relieves Villone, Kyle Farnsworth replaces Proctor and Mariano Rivera combine for the 1 hit victory over the cross town rival Mets. Hernandez goes 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, striking out 3 while walking 1. Mariano Rivera puts the Mets down 1-2-3 in the 9th to earn his 18th of 2006.
