Important note: The Singer 66 is a full sized machine. The 99 is the same as the 66, but smaller (3/4 sized). Later the Singer 99 was replaced by the 185, which was the same as the 99 only in a different shell. So they are all three related.

The letter indicates the factory the machine was built in. In 66k the letter K stands for Kilbowie (Scotland). More on the topic there your Singer was built in this video:    • Where was my Singer sewing machine made?

It is vital to oil your Singer. Yes, they are almost unbreakable. But you want a smooth running machine.
Apply sewing machine oil to everything metal on metal that hinges or moves.
DO NOT USE WD40!
