How can historic preservation be relevant if its purpose is only saving old buildings? Why should I care?

Frank Hagaman is working to put preservation in the forefront of community economic development in Hartford. In leading the Hartford Preservation Alliance the board recognizes that his work as a developer made signature contributions to economic revitalization utilizing and preserving historic fabric represented in the adaptive reuse of vacant, abandoned and underutilized properties.

Frank is recognized as someone who can gather people around a table to focus on contemporary urban problems. His work lately has involved addressing the built environment at the same time working to address the ongoing needs of cities to create sustainable, livable and walkable communities for multi-generational, mixed-income urban populations. He believes that historic preservation is integral and fundamental to meeting this challenge.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
