Nan Rosenthal, curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1994-2008), speaks with American painter Wayne Thiebaud about Thiebaud’s philosophical approach to the art of painting. Thiebaud first received national attention in 1962 for his colorful artwork depicting commonplace objects, and established himself as part of the Pop Art movement alongside Andy Warhol. Thiebaud discusses his fascination with being a painter and describes the process of turning small beginnings into extraordinary results. The discussion concludes with audience questions.

Recorded April 21, 1994 at The 92nd Street Y, New York.
