Ustad Yunus Hussain Khan holds forth on Sufism, Vaishnavism, Bhakti, Bhaichara and speaks about the bond between Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusrau. He follows up presenting two compositions of Amir Khusrau. He mentions that regardless of what the original tune was, ‘Ban ke panchhi’ has been sung in the modern era by Ustad Amir Khan in Raag Todi and follows in the same vein.

Ustad Yunus Hussain Khan was a wondrous exponent of Agra Gharana. Wonderful singer, composer, musicologist and a professor of music at Delhi University. Like his famous father, the legendary Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, he was a thinking musician and a true Vagyekaar of the highest order. A treasure house of traditional compositions and rage ragas, his repertoire was not limited to his own gharana. He was poet of great merit and composed beautiful bandishes under the pen name ‘Darpan’ i.e. mirror. In many of his bandishes, the name fitted in seamlessly into the theme of the song. I got to appreciate the full extent of his genius from the huge number of uploads on you tube, including numerous lectures on Music.
