Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told parliament on February 23 that Hungary “will not yield to blackmail”, accusing Brussels and Ukraine of interfering in the country’s upcoming April elections.

The warning comes amid a dispute over the Druzhba oil pipeline, which Hungary and Slovakia claim Ukraine has halted for political reasons. Orban said the suspension of oil supplies constitutes “open political blackmail” and warned that the EU Commission has failed to defend Hungary’s interests.

He also criticized Brussels’ war strategy, stating Europe cannot financially sustain the Ukraine conflict and warning that current policies risk long-term debt and military strain.
