In this video, David Smith covers what BGP is, why BGP is used, and what makes BGP different from a protocol like IGP. If you are learning networking for work or to earn certifications, you need to understand how BGP works.

BGP stands for border gateway protocol. BGP is responsible for passing routing data between those autonomous systems. Have you ever wondered how data know how to get from one building in your company to another satellite office? BGP can play a big hand in that if your organization uses autonomous networks.

Service providers and large businesses alike love BGP. It’s an extremely scalable protocol, and it is easily scalable. That doesn’t mean that the scalability of BGP comes with detriments, though. Performance can suffer due to its scalability.

Like all things in IT, BGP has trust issues, too. It makes sense. BGP is designed to help route traffic between different domains. So, at its core, BGP is non-trusting.

Those are only a few of the interesting tidbits that you need to know about BGP. This video contains more information, and even still, it barely scratches the surface. So, are you ready to start learning about BGP? Then let’s get into it!
