The original family business of the Kelkar family was their attar business, which was started in 1919 by Abhijeet's grandfather. Back in the days, the company sold attar, gulabjal (rose water), and gulkand.

However, Abhijeet had a vision. He quit his lucrative job with a highly reputable pharma company in Bangalore to pursue his passion of taking his family attar business to another level. In the September of 2009, Kelkar Foods & Fragrances was incorporated. Through this company, Abhijeet added numerous highly innovative product offerings to the portfolio of his family's attar business. These products were inspired by the changing times, as well as the changing needs of the people and the industry at large.

Today, Kelkar brand has made significant progress in terms of the diversification of its product line as per changing industry demands.
