So, where do we even begin? For months, this corner of the yard has been giving me anxiety. It was choked with algae, the pump was practically screaming every time we turned it on, and honestly, the fish looked miserable. It was time for a complete overhaul—the ULTIMATE pond renovation! We started by draining the entire thing, which was already a heroic effort in itself (RIP to my back 😩). Then came the messy, muddy digging phase where we reshaped the edges, added proper filtration trenches, and installed some serious heavy-duty liners. We spent days sourcing the perfect river stones and boulders—I swear I’m going to dream in granite for the next month! But the real game-changer was the waterfall design. But let's talk about the inhabitants! We’ve been raising these koi and goldfish for years, and they deserved a palace, not a puddle. After cleaning and treating the water, we carefully relocated them, and they look SO much happier swimming around their new, spacious home. BUT, that’s not all! Because we upgraded the filtration system so drastically, we decided it was time for an upgrade in residents too! We managed to source some truly enormous, show-stopping koi specimens—we’re talking proper giants that look like swimming jewels! 💎 Watching them explore the new rockwork and oxygen-rich water was the most rewarding part of this entire project. And yes, we did a little bit of ‘monster fishing’ during the process to check water levels and make sure everything was secure, and the size of the fish we netted momentarily stopped my heart!
