Описание к видео Two Lego Mindstorms EV3 bricks daisy chain connected by Wifi (EV3DEV/C++)

The default Lego programming environment offers the option to connect two, three or four bricks in daisy chain modus. The bricks need to be physically connected by an USB cable. You only need to write a program for the master brick. The daisy chain master brick act as one large brick with a maximum of 16 motors and 16 sensors. At least, that is the theory since the software is rather buggy resulting in unpredictable behavior of the bricks.

The Sioux.NET on Track project is moving away from this standard programming environment. We are now running the EV3DEV environment, using C++ as programming language. Since we used the daisy chain functionality in our current setup, we were looking for an EV3DEV/C++ implementation. But we couldn't found one. So we wrote our own.

In our implementation, there is in principal no maximum to the number of slave bricks. In practice, the performance of the TCP connections will create a maximum. A huge advantage is that the connection between the bricks is based on an IP address, so it doesn't have to be an USB cable anymore. In this video, you see a simple test setup. A slave brick has been connected to the master brick using Wifi. On the display, you can see that the slave application is running. The main program is only running on the master brick, with a very straight forward demo: if the touch sensor is pressed on the slave, the leds on the master turn yellow and the motor rotates. And vice versa.

The pro's and cons in a nutshell:
No hard limit to the number of daisy chain bricks
Connection via USB cable, Wifi or bluetooth
Connected bricks act as one large brick
Access to display, leds and sound speaker on the slave bricks

You need the EV3DEV/C++ environment
Communication speed between master and slave bricks, if you connect wireless

It is still work in progress

And therefore, it is not (yet) public available
