• The circuit shown permits to produce continuous reciprocation motion of a hydraulic cylinder.
• The circuit describes how a (pilot-actuated, four ways, two position) directional control valve controls the direction of flow from a positive displacement pump to a double acting cylinder.
• At the position activated in the circuit, the DCV direct the oil from pump to cylinder blank end, and from cylinder rod end to atmospheric tank, so the rod extends.
• At the end of the extension stroke the pressure build up until it reaches the pressure that opens the left sequence valve, then the sequence valve opens and the DCV takes a pilot pressure and is actuated to the left position.
• At the left position, the DCV directs the oil flow from the pump to the cylinder rod end, and from cylinder blank end to the tank, so the rod retracts.
• At the end of the retraction stroke the pressure build up until it reaches the pressure that opens the right sequence valve, then the sequence valve opens and the DCV takes a pilot pressure and actuated to the right position.
• The check valves are needed to allow pilot oil to leave either end of the DCV while the pilot pressure is applied to the opposite end. This permits the spool of the DCV to shift as required.
• The unloading valve unloads the pump at the ends of the extension and retraction strokes.
