Kuno Fencker, Greenlandic MP from the Naleraq party, says Greenland shouldn’t panic about the U.S. appointing a special envoy, but instead see it as proof that the island finally matters on the world stage. He argues Greenland needs to grow up politically, stop acting offended, and use rising U.S. interest as leverage to push toward real independence. Fencker strongly rejects the idea that the U.S. wants to annex Greenland, saying Greenland is already effectively annexed by Denmark and won’t accept a new boss. From his point of view, U.S. security concerns in the Arctic are legitimate, especially with Russia expanding military activity and new shipping routes opening as ice melts. He’s open to deeper cooperation with the U.S. on defense, but only if Greenland is treated as a future sovereign partner, not a bargaining chip between Washington and Copenhagen.
