1960: PLATO Learning
Edmentum’s history dates back to 1960—when the University of Illinois developed technology and content for a computer-assisted instructional system. The system they created would later become what is known as PLATO Learning.

1997: Educational Options
Educational Options was founded in 1997 to create outstanding web-based educational programs that support students and teachers inside and outside of the traditional classroom. Today, EdOptions Academy is a fully accredited virtual school solution.

1999: EducationCity
EducationCity has been inspiring children and teachers in the classroom since 1999.

2000: Study Island
Study Island was founded as a web-based standards mastery and test preparation program. Starting in Ohio, Study Island quickly spread to all 50 states and Canada.

2007-2011: Archipelago Learning
Archipelago Learning brought together Study Island, EducationCity, ESL ReadingSmart, and Northstar Learning to deliver standards-based instruction, practice, and formative assessment to students across the United States, Canada, and the U.K.

2012: Edmentum
PLATO Learning, Educational Options, and Archipelago Learning joined to become Edmentum and deliver research-based digital curriculum, assessments, and educational consulting to over 1 million educators and 14 million students worldwide.
