And now for something completely different.— Monty Python
For the first time in more than 880 author interviews, this one is a sneak peek at an upcoming book.
Why? First, because we are nearing the end of our 15-year quest to perform 888 author interviews, and second, because the photos taken by our guest for an upcoming coffee table book are simply stunning and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share them with you.
WE INTERRUPT THIS DESCRIPTION TO BRING YOU THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
Don't worry about this channel coming to an end, though. In the months to come, we will be posting the pre-Zoom interviews that make up the bulk of them. They'll be audio only, having been aired originally on KLCK Radio, dual-licensed to Goldendale, Washington and The Dalles, Oregon. And they are anything but standard stuff.
The common practice is for the publicist to have a media day for the author by plunking them down and scheduling an interview with a different radio or TV station every 10 or 15 minutes. They'll send each outlet a copy of the book, an author bio and ten question to ask. But when they got to me, I would surprise the author by actually having READ THE BOOK, taken notes, and asked interesting questions. The authors, tired of trying to sound fresh when answering the same 10 questions over and over, were delighted to find someone who had read the book and asked challenging questions. That's how I was able to interview Jack Reacher author Lee Child three times, Mary Higgens Clark four times and David Baldacci an amazing 11 times.
Yes, there are unknown and local authors in the bunch, but you'll also find Clive Cussler, Jeffrey Archer, Tess Gerritson, Sandra Brown, Scott Turow, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Jefferson Bass, Brad Meltzer, Dan Jones, Nixon-era unindicted co-conspirator John Dean.
As a long-time science fiction fan, I was able to get interviews with stellar names such as Larry Niven, Joe Haldeman, Spider Robinson, John Scalzi, Brandon Sanderson, Davids Brin and Lavine, Orson Scott Card and, of course, many more.
There are also authors (and sometimes artists as well) who produce children's books, cookbooks,, self-help books, westerns, spy novels, historical fiction and even romances. We hope you'll like it.
