Text is from a manuscript called an "early draft" by Henley and Henderson, now in the Lilly Library at Indiana University. On the reverse is an epigram written to Maria Riddell, placing it in 1792 or 3.

“I have met the tradition universally over Scotland, and particularly about Stirling, in the neighbourhood of the scene, that this air was Robert Bruce’s march at the battle of Bannockburn.” —RB, Notes to Scots Musical Museum #170 ,"Hey Tutti Taitti." Burns's MS of that song gives the title as spelled by McGibbon:
