Artist, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Noah Issa has just released his collaboration with iconic reggae/dancehall artist Shaggy. “Legendary” features rapid fire Jamaican patois vocals from Noah and Shaggy, over a bass-heavy beat reminiscent of the 90s dancehall era. The song came about after Shaggy launched an open verse challenge on Tik Tok in which he invited artists to add a verse over his song “Mi Nuh Know.”
The challenge began to create a buzz on social media, and verses were being posted from up and coming artists as well as dancehall heavyweights such as Demarco and Mr. Lexx. Noah posted his entry for the challenge on Instagram and Tik Tok, which gained recognition and high praises from prominent figures in the Caribbean, such as social media personalities, politicians, athletes, radio DJs, reggae & dancehall artists, and Shaggy himself.
A day later, Shaggy shared the video to his own Instagram page which had a snowball effect in the video gaining even more support from his audience. This caught Shaggy and his team’s attention and eventually led to Shaggy and Noah connecting at a studio in NYC to do this collaboration.
Prior to this Noah had already began making waves on the Caribbean social media scene with a string of videos on social media like “Making a beat out of a Red Stripe bottle,” which was liked and supported by well-known figures such as Usain Bolt, and another dancehall flavored open verse challenge for “Handsomer” by American rapper Russ.
Noah has also shown his skills as a multi-instrumentalist in his “one man band” style looping videos where he creates tracks on the spot using guitars, keyboards, drum machines and melodicas - all while also manipulating the sound in real time using midi controllers, adding delay, phaser and reverb FX in a style reminiscent of dub pioneers such as King Tubby and Lee Scratch Perry.
Noah is no stranger to the dancehall music scene as he began producing songs for major dancehall and reggae artists from the age of 14. In 2007 he composed the Carrot Oil Riddim and Brazilian Wax Riddim which featured artists such as Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall, Delly Ranx, Black Ryno, Anthony B and more. From there Noah began to gain recognition as an artist in his own right, in 2016 he released his first single titled “New Stylie”, a fusion of dancehall, dub, trap and experimental EDM that perpetually reinvents and re-styles itself ahead of an ethereal, dream-like climax. “New Stylie”pushed the limits of creative sound design and rhythmic complexity, and it was featured on BBC 1XTRA Diplo & Friends.
Since then Noah has continued to deliver his own unique blend of reggae, dancehall, hip hop and electronic music. In late 2021 he released his first self-produced LP titled “Rude Awakening,” featuring an eclectic mix of tracks, all of which were written, produced, mixed and mastered by Noah.
