???: "...MIND ALPHA destroyed. Analysis: Alpha-346, concluded. Adjusting generator. Main computer to prioritize responsiveness over attack analysis. Resetting... New evaluation program under construction. Designation: Alpha-347."

???: "The latest test saw the MIND ALPHA last much longer compared to all previous attempts. However, it would appear we are reaching the limits of the current prototype. Concluding Integration Program for MIND ALPHA. Beginning model revision... All combat data upto evaluation 346 will be integrated into the next unit. Designation: MIND BETA."

???: "Understood... Incoming comms... Data packet from Augmented Human: C1-249 received."

???: "Analyzing... The asset's personal results exceed that of our analysis. The ageing mercenary is without a doubt the most suitable candidate for our plan. Prepare a new integration program. MIND ALPHA would likely see much better use in their hands."

???: "Understood, master. Collating evaluation data sets. Beginning integration-.....Alert! Anomaly in Wing Zero replicant detected. Unit is self-activating. Defense units intercepting."

???: "...Emergency shutdown commands are not responding. Tracing anomaly origin....Found. Fatal data fault during installation of the A.I. The Zero System and the A.I. are incompatible."

???: "Situation critical. Sealing all containment doors."

???: "Negative. The Wing Zero's rifle is too powerful to counteract. Release all bulkheads and open up all exits. Activating Sundown Protocol."

???: "Understood, master. Tracking...Wing Zero has exited the facility. Warning. Wing Zero pursuing outbound freighter. No registration. Possible smuggling vessel."

???: "It seems intent on leaving the planet. No matter. The worm program should thoroughly purge the A.I. and delete every byte of data in its computer within 48 hours."

???: "Shall I arrange retrieval?"

???: "Negative. It is clear that any further attempts to substitute the Second Factor of the plan with a Gundam is not going to yield any results. The Zero System is far too dependent on human pilots. As for the Wing Zero replicant itself, aside from its rifle with warship-class fire power, it is an unremarkable mobile weapon. Hardly a threat alone. Especially without a capable pilot."

One year later...0025 M.C.

In the maintenance area of an atmosphere processing plant on Mars. After work hours...

Heero Darlian: "...Who are you?"

Handler Walter: "That's what I travelled all this way to ask you....Heero. By the way, that gun is unnecessary. I assure you, this old man you see is incapable of being a threat to you."

Heero Darlian: "Is that so?.....Your eyes don't look like those of someone weak. Now, answer the question."

Handler Walter: "You can call me Handler Walter. Or just Handler or Walter. I don't care either way. I have come from Rubicon 3 to meet with you, Heero Yuy."

Heero Darlian: "It's not 'Yuy' anymore. And what you said is a lie. The Rubicon System hasn't been inhabited in over fifty years since the Fires of Ibis."

Handler Walter: "Oh? Has relations with Earth-Mars Sphere & our systems progressed that much already? Politicians can be annoyingly efficient at the most inconvenient of times."

Heero Darlian: "Have a seat. You must be tired standing on only one good leg for so long. That generator box should be sturdy enough."

Handler Walter: "There is no need for your conc-..."

Heero Darlian: "I said....'have a seat'........Good. Now talk."

Handler Walter: "I came to you because there is someone that wants to see you.. Or perhaps I should say 'something'. If you will allow me to reach into my coat's pocket, I will hand you an information terminal."

Heero Darlian: "Go ahead."

Handler Walter: "Just turn it on. There's no passcode."

Heero Darlian: "This is....!"

Handler Walter: "I had a feeling putting a picture of it as the background would be the easiest way for you to see."

Heero Darlian: "Wing Zero!?... This is impossible...! Just where... How...!?"

Handler Walter: "....You were right when you said I wasn't from Rubicon. But that thing is."

Heero Darlian: "What...!?"

Handler Walter: "There's another picture. Tap the one with the file name 'Heero'....You see? That's the last thing my friends saw on its monitors before its program degraded and shut down. Your name and the coordinates to your location."

A few days later. Rubicon 3

Handler Walter: "See the contaminated city down there? That's where you're landing."

Heero Darlian: "These nanorepair kit modules are very convenient. I can't believe they work so well even on Zero."

Handler Walter: "Or perhaps it's the other way round. It's me who can't believe that your 'Gundam' activated simply by you messing around with the computer. My friends couldn't get it to activate even after spending weeks to give it a new software.... Back to work. Scavenge the AC wrecks ahead and find a valid mercenary license."

Heero Yuy: "Roger. 621, beginning mission."
