Sheep, by nature  are vunerable and can easily be attacked. Even when attacked the sheep may hardly make any noise And would accept its fate with little resistance, paralyzed with fear.
A true Shepherd at the time of Jesus, would lead them to pastures, protect the sheep from thieves and wild animals and rescue them from thorny bushes.
Jesus knows we are weak and are susceptible to danger all around us. Wouldn't he then take care us? Wouldn't he be like the Sherpherd whose voice the sheep recognise, trust and follow? Wouldn't he then extended his hand of protection upon us?

This hymn highlights the beauty of this Shepherd who takes care of his Sheepfold, it brings out the beauty of the protection of God for us.
