A small plane crashed into a San Diego military housing neighborhood early Thursday morning killing two people and injuring 8.

One of the injured was later transported from the evacuation center to a local hospital.

Fire crews responded to reports of a plane crash shortly after 3:45 a.m. in the area of Sample and Salmon Streets in Murphy Canyon.

According to authorities, the Cessna 550 flew through the neighborhood and took out one home, damaging multiple homes along the way.

The homes were occupied at the time of the crash, according to authorities.
Authorities confirmed that occupants inside those homes were not injured.

The impact of the crash set multiple vehicles on fire that were parked along the streets.

According to the San Diego Police Department, a large debris field filled multiple streets.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board arrived on the scene to investigate the crash.
