The Denver Broncos opened up the 2024 NFL Preseason earlier this week against the Indianapolis Colts, where we also got a glimpse at the NFL debut of Bo Nix as an NFL quarterback. Through training camp, practices, etc, we had been trying to figure out how head coach Sean Payton would look to use Bo Nix, along with how he would perform on the field as a rookie. And well, what we saw was not what most expected.

To start with the Denver Broncos offense, the use of Bo Nix was completely different compared to that of Jarett Stidham & Zach Wilson in the sense of implementing an RPO shotgun style offense. And clearly this scheme did well for OC Joe Lombardi & for the Denver Broncos while trying to implement guys like Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin, Samaje Perine, Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr, Josh Reynolds, Tim Patrick, Devaughn Vele, even TEs Adam Trautman & Greg Dulcich.

Then in terms of the Broncos defense, there was plenty to dissect on this side of the football as well. DC Vance Joseph’s scheme of looking to get the most out of top guys in Alex Singleton, Pat Surtain II, PJ Locke, Brandon Jones, Ja’Quan McMillian, DJ Jones, etc. showed flashes from time to time in game 1 of the preseason. Now, we’ll just have to wait and see if this continues as we approach the 2024 NFL regular season.
