Opening of the new 2016/1 wave 5 Thomas and Friends Minis Blind Bags. Wave 5 or Wave 1 2016 mini trains are by Mattel. Because of the immense popularity and demand of the Minis, the range was continued in 2016 with Mattel incorporating more themes and characters into the popular toy-line. The brand new themes introduced, include: Sweets, Electrified, Sports, Creatures, Graffiti, Tootsie® and Core Moments. Various established themes also got brand new additions to their lineup. New characters were introduced and rolling stock was also added to the range. The surprise bag series in 2016 contained many previously released Minis, titled 'returning favourites' as well as brand new introductions mixed into each series.
