Paper Mario: The Origami King is a 2020 cross-genre video game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch console. It is the sixth game in the Paper Mario series, part of the larger Mario franchise, and the sequel to Paper Mario: Color Splash.

Blooper: Just before entering Peach's Castle towards the end the game, there's a brief moment where the L on Luigi's cap is mirrored.

Content Leak: The game was hinted at by Sabi, who was infamous for leaking numerous E3 2019 plans and almost leaked Nintendo’s own plans before being stopped by lawyers, all the way back in January 2020. The game itself was then leaked a week before release, with dedicated discussion platforms being forced to combat them.

Dueling Works: With Bug Fables, a Homage to the original Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, as its Switch port was released a month prior to The Origami King.

Executive Meddling: An interview released the day before the game came out talked about how, from Sticker Star on, they were no longer able to create original characters like the Goombas or modified Toads seen in past games or reuse such characters from past gamesnote . Instead, they must either use pre-existing designs for characters and slightly modify them, such as Toads with various outfits, or create completely unique characters divorced from the franchise's usuals, such as Olly and Olivia.

Fan Nickname
"Wet Floor Bowser" for Bowser's folded up form, due to him resembling a wet floor sign.
After the first trailer, the fandom started calling the Bob-omb lacking a fuse "Bob". Funnily enough, the character was later revealed to be named "Bobby".

What Could Have Been
Origami Peach has a list of unused combat animations, suggesting she was once meant to be a boss at some point in development.

Apparently, Experience Points were going to be implemented into the game at one point. But it is currently unknown if it was meant to be a more traditional levelling up system or one that is similar to its predecessor.
