Paul Olaf Bodding - (2nd November 1865 and had expired on 25th September 1938), son of Late Edward Olsen Bodding and Emilie Wennevold was born in Norway, a Scandinavian country.
He arrived in India in 1890 as a missionary to work in Santal Pargana.
He is credited with creating the first alphabet for the Santali language and wrote the first grammar for Santali. He loved Santal tribal culture and was loved and respected by all who knew him as a dedicated missionary. He is the founder and father of Santali Roman Script. He wrote many books in Santali. His greatest pieces of work were the translation of the Bible into Santali and the Santali Dictionary. He gave out many valuable books that still very useful in society. His writings are the treasurer for the Santali society.
