In the middle of nowhere, Whittlesey Cambridgeshire Fens, a Black Five stops to take water. It's the welcome return of a much-needed locomotive - this time hauling the Norwich to Stratford upon Avon charter service.
Arriving a few minutes late, and with the Norwich to Liverpool service train likely to be held behind, this is a very brief stop to take on water from the adjacent road tanker. But the waiting motorists would not see this as a brief stop - a sixteen minute closure of the hand-operated gates. I suspect the re-signalling and the demise of the semaphore signals means the gates stay open once the train is in the section. (I had planned to film further to the west and hadn't expected to be trapped on the wrong side of the line).
