Описание к видео Italy Blocks AstraZeneca Exports, Israel Reopens, and Germany Approves Vaccine for Over-65s

I-I-I News by HealthManagement.org - March 09 2021

Australia has asked the European Commission to review Italy's decision to block the export of 250,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Italy has been badly hit by the pandemic, with more than 2.9 million cases and 99,000 deaths. Italy has said that Australia is not on the list of vulnerable countries and that their situation was more complex as there was a permanent shortage of vaccines in the EU and Italy. No official comment has been made by the EU or AstraZeneca.

Israel has reopened most of its economy and has removed many lockdown restrictions due to its successful vaccination campaign. The move is expected to give a boost to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's re-election hopes. Israel has immunised nearly 40% of its population in over two months, becoming a leader in vaccinations per capita. Hotels, primary and secondary schools, bars and restaurants, event halls and sporting events will reopen. Some restrictions remain on crowd sizes and certain places will only be open to those who have been vaccinated.

Germany has approved AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine for use in people over the age of 65, reversing its earlier restriction in that age group. (1:31) The use of the vaccine had been limited to people under 65 years because data in the older age group was inadequate. However, the decision has been reversed after Chancellor Angela Merkel said new studies reinforced supported wider use. The government has also proposed extending the time between doses to 12 weeks. France and Belgium have also removed similar restrictions.

Hundreds of people gathered in central Stockholm to protest coronavirus restrictions set by the Swedish government. The demonstration is the first major protest against coronavirus restrictions. Police cut the gathering short as the number of participants exceeded the limits for public gatherings under Sweden's pandemic laws, and many were without masks. Although the demonstration was dispersed peacefully, six police officers were injured.

The Royal College of Nursing in Northern Ireland has threatened to go on strike after a 1% pay offer was made for nursing staff. The union says this is a massive slap in the face and has called for a 12.5% pay rise.
The government has said that this 1% represents what is affordable during these difficult times. RCN's NI Director Pat Cullen says that members have worked 15-hour days throughout this crisis, and this offer has left them feeling angry and let down.
