STORYLINE:
Smoke was seen rising above southern Lebanon following a series of blasts Monday morning.

According to an Associated Press journalist in Lebanon, Israeli jets hit the area.

At around 0800GMT, the Israeli Defence Force released a statement stating "the IDF is currently conducting strikes on terror targets belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon."

The Israeli military on Monday called on residents of southern Lebanon to immediately evacuate homes and other buildings where Hezbollah stores weapons.

It was the first warning of its kind in nearly a year of steadily escalating conflict and came after a particularly heavy exchange of fire on Sunday. Hezbollah launched around 150 rockets, missiles and drones into northern Israel in retaliation for strikes that killed a top commander and dozens of fighters.
