This is showing how I would build an tool holder for the Atlas shaper. This is a welded assembly which will give you a very functional tool holder to use with the shaper at a fraction of the cost of original holders found on fleabay. I chose to use common cold roll steel for these holders as they are commonly available without the added cost and complexity of more exotic steels and without the necessity of heat treating and annealing. Atlas originally offered these machines aimed at the home shop and were a low cost alternative that fit in the shop or garage of the average hobbyist. Now they have become a machine that is being parted out on some sites with prices of used parts as well as new reproduction parts in many instances being many times more than their actual value. This is my attempt to show how many of these parts can be built by the average hobbyist as well as offer many at a reasonable cost so these machines can continue to be enjoyed by the hobby machinist.
