The Newseum presents the latest in a series of events marking the 50th anniversary of the June 1969 police raid of New York’s Stonewall Inn and the protests that inspired the modern gay liberation movement. The Newseum’s newest exhibit, “Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement,” explores what happened at Stonewall and how it gave rise to a 50-year fight for civil rights for LGBTQ Americans.

The program centers around the new book, “Religious Freedom, LGBT Rights, and the Prospects for Common Ground,” which assembles impactful voices from the faith, LGBTQ advocacy, legal and academic communities.

Panelists include:

William N. Eskridge Jr., the John A. Garver Professor of Jurisprudence at Yale Law School and co-editor of the book.

Robin Fretwell Wilson, the Roger and Stephany JoslinProfessor of Law at the University of Illinois’ College of Law and co-editor of the book.

Holly Hollman, general counsel of Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty and book contributor.

Jonathan Rauch, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a contributing editor of The Atlantic.

Kristina Arriaga, president of the Oxford Society for Law and Religion, moderates the conversation.
