Описание к видео Divine Secrets of Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple | Kanchipuram Tamilnadu | Complete Tour

City of Thousand Temples Kanchipuram Tamil Nadu Kanchipuram Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple Complete Tour and History Vlog Kanchipuram City | Temple city of Tamil Nadu | Kanchipuram tour 2025 Divine Secrets of Kanchipuram This is the land of temples, with more than 1,000 temples in this town. It is also one of the Sapta Puri—the seven sacred cities of India.
As part of our Shaktipeetha Yatra, we have reached Kanchipuram. This city is home to the Kanchi Kamakshi Temple, one of the Shakti Peethas. It is believed that without the grace of Goddess Kamakshi, one cannot even set foot in Kanchipuram. It is also said that Goddess Shakti’s nabhi, or midriff, fell here.
Kanchipuram also has a Shaktipeetha—the Kanchi Kamakshi Temple, also known as Kamakoti Nayaki Koil—dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi. It is believed that, without her grace, one cannot even set foot in Kanchipuram. Legend says Goddess Shakti’s nabhi or midriff fell here. This temple is located in the heart of Kanchipuram and has a unique Sri Chakra installed by Adi Shankaracharya.
On the Raja Gopuram, we can see carvings of Hayagriva giving the Lalita Sahasranamam to Sage Agastya. The Lalita Sahasranamam is said to have originated from a conversation between Hayagriva, an incarnation of God Vishnu, and the sage Agastya
In ancient times, an asura named Bandakasura kept disturbing the devas, so they prayed to the Goddess. She appeared as a 9-year-old girl to kill Bandakasura. On the way, she changed her form to the 18-armed Ashtabhuja Durga, killed Bandakasura, and dragged his body to Kanchipuram. Then she changed back into the form of a 9-year-old girl. The devas were shocked that a child had defeated the asura and asked, “Who are you?” She told them to dig a pit, bury Bandakasura’s body, and place a victory pillar or Vijayastambham, which we can still see inside the temple.
The Emergence of Mallaka
While digging the pit for Bandakasura, another rakshasa named Mallaka appeared and attacked the devas. Suddenly, God Vishnu appeared and killed Mallaka with his Sudarshana Chakra. When Mallaka’s blood touched the ground, more demons arose, much like Raktabeeja. So God Vishnu called God Shiva. God Shiva appeared and threw two strands of his Jada hair to the ground, creating two Shiva Bhoota Ganas who drank all of Mallaka’s blood before it could fall. However, after drinking Mallaka’s blood they became intoxicated and attacked God Vishnu. God Vishnu tied them but did not kill them because they came for a good cause. When they returned to normal, they apologized, and God Vishnu asked God Shiva to forgive them. The form God Vishnu took to tie them is still seen in the temple as Bhootabadha Janardhana. God Shiva then created a small pond from the Ganga water flowing from his five heads, known as Pancha Theertham, which you can still see near the temple. Carvings of the two Bhoota Ganas are also there.
Revealing the True Form
The devas asked the Goddess to show her real form nija swaroopam. She said, “Build a Gayathri Mandapam for me to sit in, then worship me. In the morning, you will see who I am.” The next morning, she appeared before them in the form of Goddess Kamakshi.
It is said that families who cannot have children come here to pray, and within a year they receive blessings. According to temple history, the puja vidhis or ritual rules were composed by Durvasa Maharshi in the Treta Yuga. The main puja vidhi here is Sri Vidya worship, known as Soubhagya Chintamani. There is also a Vamachara tradition here, but it is only performed in the forest.
Once a year, on the occasion of Aippasi Pooram, priests perform a milk abhishekam for Goddess Kamakshi with nearly 4,000 liters of milk, which miraculously disappears into a cave. In the Dwapara Yuga, God Balarama is said to have visited this temple. Some say that if you sit in a certain spot in the Gayathri Mandapam and meditate on Goddess Kamakshi, you can still hear the sound of her anklets. In most temples, you can see the deity’s feet, but here you can only see them during abhishekam because she sits in a yoga posture. Around the main Vigraha, there are also Vigrahas of God Shiva, God Vishnu, God Brahma, a golden Kamakshi, Goddess Saraswati, and Adi Shankaracharya.
Only in this temple can you find all the deities associated with Sri Vidya—Rajamatangi, Varahi, Annapoorani, Bhairavar, Durgai, and Ganapathi—together in one place. This is not seen in any other temple. Out of Kanchipuram’s 1,008 Shiva temples, none have a separate shrine for the Goddess, because here, the Goddess is central. So, in every temple festival in Kanchipuram, the procession must circle around Kamakshi Amman Temple.
