Testing a 121gr Selous solid copper defensive bullet, but instead of running it in 9mm, I loaded it into a .357 SIG.

The Selous was developed using the same proprietary tech found in their subsonic rifle bullets. It’s a machined solid copper projectile with a built-in hinge mechanism that allows it to expand massively in soft tissue while staying intact through barriers like clothing, drywall, and auto glass.

In its 9mm loadings, this bullet is offered in standard P, +P, and +P+ with estimated velocities of:

1150 fps in standard pressure

1200 fps in +P

1250 fps in +P+

That puts it in the 420 ft-lb energy range for a full-size pistol like a Glock 17.

Loaded it in .357 SIG with a Dillon 550, the results were interesting. Using a Garmin chrono, I captured speeds up to 1617 fps with 702 ft-lbs of energy. For testing, I shot a AR500 steel target at 50 yards to check accuracy, then ran a ballistic gel test at 5 yards to see how it performs up close.

Unfortunately, the round is too long to put in a mag, and you would have to load 1 round at a time.

All of this was done safely on a private bay under controlled conditions. Please don’t attempt to recreate what you see in this video. It’s strictly for education and entertainment.
